Biography
Rowan's alternative lifestyle started from the first moment that she entered the world, the love child of a hippy and a punk, she spent the first few years of her life touring festivals with rock groups and playing with scrap metal whilst her parents worked on the scene. Rowan's family later migrated to the serene Devon countryside to settle down and retire from the rock and roll lifestyle, here Rowan attended alternative schools based on democratic practice and equality where she was encouraged to speak her mind and think for herself.
Leaving home at the young age of 15, Rowan traveled solo throughout eastern Europe and the middle east, before returning to the UK a year later to begin an intensive period of study.
Her training led her through several institutions, namely The Hub Theatre School, a decentralized centre for the study of Le Cocq based physical theatre and performance techniques. Circomedia, centre for contemporary circus and physical performance, and Plymouth University, where she picked up a BA hons in contemporary dance theatre performance. Alongside pursuing a fair share of full time vocational education, Rowan has also sought out teaching and mentoring from numerous regarded companies and practitioners, including Song of the Goat, Lindsay Butcher, Wired Aerial, and Improbable theatre to name but a few.
Rowan has had a successful career working as a physical performer. Over the last ten years, she has worked with all manner of circus, dance and theatre companies and performed as a clown, aerialist, acrobat, dancer, devising performer, and a magicians assistant.
Rowan has been a long-standing contributor to the UK's grass roots and contemporary immersive theatre scene, assisting the creation of new work in both creative and production roles.
